About Us
The Centre is a project that the Earlestown Baptist Church agreed to undertake in January 2000, to provide a community facility for the use of local residents of Earlestown, Newton-le-Willows, Merseyside.
Our aim is to improve the quality of life of the people of Earlestown.
The Church and Centre stand on the site of the original Earlestown Baptist Church which was built in 1871 and was demolished in 2000. A fundraising group was formed and subsequently a grant application group to deal with the demanding work of applying to grant making trusts to raise the money. In total an amount of approximately £400K was raised – the Church raised £68K from fundraising events and donations.
As the project evolved, the Crownway Community Centre Management Committee and Constitution were formed and the building work started during the first week in January 2005 and completed on 31 August 2005.
The official opening took place on 22 October 2005 and opened to the public on 31 October 2005. There was a waiting list of groups wanting to use the Centre, demonstrating the research carried out to prove the need for such a facility in the area was accurate and not a figment of our imagination.
About the Centre
The main function of the Centre is to serve the people of Earlestown and the local area offering activity and learning as identified by our community. We also hire our facilities to agencies, organisations and local groups. It also has a community Cafe, the use of which has exceeded all expectations: as has the bookings to use the meeting rooms.
The volunteers have cultivated a warm and welcoming atmosphere in the Centre and the pleasant, clean, bright décor adds to the feeling of wellbeing throughout the building.
